Tech Tips 2010 - The Year in Review

By Bryan Lambert - January 2, 2011

It has been another eventful year in the Consumer Electronic world as well as here at Tech Tips Blog. In this Tech Tip, we will take a look back at some of the articles that we brought to you in 2010.

In 2010, we shared some practical tips on reusing hardware (such as the January 24th tip on reusing your old PC drives or the February 21st tip on how to turn a netbook into an e-book reader). We also brought you some tips for fixing issues with your PC - May 30th article titled: “In Your Pocket” Tech Support; the June 30th article on fixing audio on your PC and August 8th article on protecting yourself from malware). Covered as well were emerging technologies with the March 14th USB 3.0 article; May 16th third generation SATA article and October 3rd article on Plug Computers.

We also had a plethora of articles covering mobile computing and SmartPhones. With articles as 5 Essential iPod Touch Apps for the Mobile Geek (January 31st); “Late to the Party” Must-Have iPhone Games (May 2nd); The “skinny” on the iPhone 4 (June 27th); Tethering - Having Your Cell Phone Cake....and Eating It Too! (July 18th); and Put Your Laptop on a Leash with an Android Phone (August 22nd), it almost seemed like a month didn’t go by without some kind of tip coming through on mobile computing or SmartPhones.

We at Tech Tips Blog also endeavor to give our readers practical advice to help you get the most out of your purchasing dollar. In that vein, we brought you articles on surge protectors in March; how much CPU power is really needed in April; a Laptop Buyers Guide in May; easy upgrades to make your Windows computer faster in June; 32-bit vs. 64-bit operating systems (also in June): the 2010 college survival guide in August; an article on ultrat-hin laptops in September; must have tech gear for productivity outside the office in October; and finally in December, our two part Ultimate Netbooks Buyers Guide (part 1 here and part 2 here) and our 2010 holiday tech buyers guide.

Also, this year we ran articles on getting the most out of the Internet with such topics as Google Chrome extensions (January); URL shorteners; creating your own cloud with Opera Unite and Affiliate Marketing 101 (all in February); a two part article on WordPress: the Blogging Powerhouse! and must have plug-ins (April); five websites to make your online life easier (May); three great alternatives to iTunes (August); backing up your Google docs (September) and saving flash based Internet video with RealPlayer SP (October).

Of course, we also wrote articles so that you Geeks out there could get the most out of what you already have such as with the tips: Free Wi-Fi – Is it worth the risk? (March 21st); 7 more Windows 7 features! (April 4th); Best places for mobile computing? (July 4th); Squeezing More Out of Your Home Wireless Network (September 19th) and Windows Media Center - Making the PC Cool Again (November 14th).

Finally, we also had a bit of whimsy this year and we brought you articles such as: Comic Con Survival Guide! (in August); “GeekBusters” - Tech Myths Debunked! (in November) and our Black Friday / Cyber Monday article (also in November).

To round it out, if you want to take a look at one of our newest Tech Tip writers, then check out Mark Tiongco in his video review of the MSI A6000 Laptop. You can see more reviews on our GeeksTV YouTube™ channel.

On a couple of housekeeping notes, we’d love to point out that you are free to share these Tech Tips either in printed form or electronically. All we as is that if it is printed, you credit Geeks.com and if shared electronically, that you cite quotes in your HTML (or using an anchor link if linking to our page).
