I used it for a dead HP pavilion and the only problem I had was an adapter on the on the hard drive that was a quarter inch thick, apeared to be part of the drive, and covered the correct plug. once removed, within ten miniutes I was retrieving my data. This was a SATA drive and windows 8 had no problem reading it.

Similar to Part # 2020, but this adapter provides Back-up capabilities. It's compatible with Windows 98SE (drivers on CD), ME, XP, Vista, and 7. Everything you need for SATA and IDE drives are included. This adapter also works with Optical drives
