Doesn't have SATA 15-pin Power Connector
Comments about 3.5'' Element EN-3400-BK USB 2.0 Aluminum External IDE/SATA HDD Enclosure (Black) - Supports up to 2TB!:
I opened up the case and the only power connector available is the 4-pin Molex power connector (older white connector style). Most new hard drives use the newer 15-pin power connector (black). So now I have to buy an adapter and try to cram everything into a small amount of space. Also, the SATA data cable had a straight end on one side and a 90 degree bend on the other. That makes it difficult to fit into the enclosure as well. And this is an old enclosure. You can tell because the user manual shows instructions for as late as Windows 2000.I would recommend spending a little more money and getting a better enclosure unless you only use an IDE hard drive.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

All I could ask for!
from Mesa, AZ
I have 2 customers who had their computers "die" on them last week. One had an IDE drive while the other had a SATA. Since the drives were not the cause of death in either case we decided to bring the drives back to life for the files that are on them. They have each purchased a new computer since then but for some reason, no one had a back up (strange?) This particular drive enclosure fit the bill for both of them. Now we will have each of them set up as a remote or backup drive after we recover the necessary files and reformat the drives. EVERYBODY HAPPY!!!I will definitely be buying more of these, I think everyone should have one on hand for the unexpected times we all come upon, because sooner or later it will happen.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Better than I expected
from West Covina, CA
I have a number of old IDE hard drives from older builds (ranging from 20 to 500 gigabytes in size) and this enclosure was the easiest way to reuse them again. It worked so well that I purchased two of them. Easy to assemble and use.It does get VERY warm after a short period of time, and large data transfers are very slow and stop-n-go like, but in the end it gets the job done. Definitely a good buy.
Best Ext. case for compatability.
Great product, only one I've seen that does both IDE and Sata. Easy to use for the most part. The inside is a bit cramped but that is because it works with both types of drives so it's understandable. You really cant beat this price.
